JONATHAN GREENE
Jonathan Greene is a dynamic musician and educator whose eclectic drumming style seamlessly spans jazz, experimental, drum n’ bass, hip hop, electronic, and pop. Renowned for his mastery of time, polyrhythms, and an acute ear for musicality, Jonathan has become a sought-after drummer in the North Carolina music scene. His versatile talent has led him to collaborate with a wide array of artists, including The amazing Jordan Scheffer, Chinobay, Daniel Seriff, Matt Sickels, E’Lon JD, Rebekah Todd, and more, showcasing his ability to adapt and thrive across genres. He endorses Reverie Drums, Stack Ring Percusion, Timothy Roberts Cymbal and the Polynome drum sequencer app.
Beyond performing, Jonathan is the driving force behind Triosion and Vintage Astronaut, bands that reflect his broad musical influences and innovative approach. His commitment to music education has been evident since 2010, guiding aspiring drummers in North Carolina, where he resides with his wife. Jonathan's journey into music was shaped by his childhood, spent in the southern evangelical tradition, absorbing rhythms beside his father, the organist at a small church in Winston Salem. Despite not picking up drums until his teens, his fascination with rhythm was omnipresent, tinkering with the household piano and exploring various percussion instruments.
Jonathan's formal music education began at 19 under the tutelage of the late Frank Pyrtle, senior, in Greensboro, North Carolina. Here, he delved into Alan Dawson's rudimental ritual, syncopation techniques, and music reading, igniting a passion for jazz that continues to influence his work. However, his musical exploration didn't stop there; Jonathan has ventured into drum and bass, punk, rock, blues, top 40, and African music, proving his refusal to be confined to a single genre.
His artistic endeavors extend beyond music to writing and photography, enriching his creative expression and offering a unique perspective on the artistic journey. Diagnosed with ADHD and depression at 38, Jonathan is candid about his mental health, leveraging his experiences to support other artists facing similar challenges. He advocates for a holistic approach to musical expression and mental health, emphasizing the importance of addressing our inner struggles rather than masking them.
